Where is Merlin Woods 
Merlin Woods Primary School is located in the east side of Galway city, with easy access to the M6 motorway, the woods and the sea. We take our name from the mature local woodland which we regularly visit. The surrounding park and playground, along with the proximity of Galway Bay, Ballyloughane beach and Ballybane library, ensure that we have the best of facilities right on our doorstep. In February 2014, we moved from our pre-fabricated temporary accomodation on the main Doughiska Road to our state of the art campus, which is accessed via the avenue opposite LIDL. We share our campus with Merlin Woods College.​

School Opening Times
School opens at 8.40am, and classes for Junior and Senior Infants conclude at 1.20pm. Classes conclude at 2.20pm for pupils from 1st class upwards. We provide a full year calendar to parents in September to allow parents to book family holidays in advance strictly in line with school closures.

Curriculum
​In our school, we teach the Primary School Curriculum, which is presented in seven major blocks:

• Languages (English and Gaeilge)
• Mathematics
• Social, Environmental and Scientific Education
• Arts Education (Visual Arts, Music and Drama)
• Physical Education
• Social, Personal and Health Education
• Religious Education
​Class teachers will invite parents to a meeting in late September to outline the programme for the year ahead. We also provide many extra-curricular activities and these vary from term to term. Classes have included yoga, mini-Glee, Irish dancing, football, hurling, art and athletics. Parents are informed regularly as to which classes are available.

School Uniform 

​In Junior and Senior Infants all children wear the green school jumper with the Merlin Woods crest, white polo shirt and navy trousers.  

From First Class onwards, pupils can wear a check skirt or formal navy school pants. 

Tracksuits pants and runners on PE days.
