You are very welcome to Merlin Woods Primary School. We are a vibrant and active school located on the east side of Galway city. We cater for the children of the Good Shepherd Parish, which encompasses the communities of Doughiska, Roscam and Ardaun. Our school is a happy, child-centred and progressive place of welcome and learning. We are a school with a Catholic ethos, and we practise these Christian values by welcoming pupils of other religions and those of no religion. Everybody is welcome in Merlin Woods.
Having opened with just 16 children on 1st September 2010, I am proud to now have more than 380 children and over 40 staff in our Merlin Woods Family. We moved into our new permanent school in February 2014, with state of the art facilities, including 16 mainstream classrooms, a large hall, several support teaching rooms, a library, a multi-sensory room, basketball courts and a spacious yard. We have two specialised classes for children with Autism, the first of which opened in 2011. We are committed to meeting the educational and developmental needs of the children under our guidance, through excellent facilities and a dedicated and professional staff. Our Board of Management is proud to support additional learning opportunities for the children, and it has invested considerable funding into additional play facilities, musical instrument teaching with Music Generation, special educational resources and technology for learning.
Merlin Woods Primary School plays a central role in the development of community spirit and involvement in our local area. Being part of this school community from the beginning is a unique and wonderful experience. I hope that you will share this journey with us, and I look forward to getting to know you and your family.
With warmest regards, Paula O’Connor Principal Teacher

We remember our esteemed friend and colleague, Crystal Tully, who passed away on 19th September 2023 after a brief illness.
Crystal joined us over nine years ago and very quickly became an essential part of our team. She gave everyone who came to the office a smile and a warm welcome. Crystal, and her colleague, Ronnie, kept the office running smoothly, working quietly and efficiently behind the scenes to keep us all in good shape throughout the whole school, all year long. Crystal's kindness and trusted opinion made her a confidante and friend to many, and we miss her greatly. We ask you to keep our beloved Crystal and her heartbroken family in your prayers.
